Super School Design Challenge

SuperSchool-KS3 SuperSchool-RT2

ArchForKids facilitated a design challenge for high school students this past July at Westchester Community College. The challenge was based on the The Super School Challenge which seeks to rethink the American high school for a changing future. Karolina Spataro and Rob Texiera had the opportunity to volunteer at this event with students from Riverside High School. The students had no architectural experience but with Rob and Karolina's guidance they were able to design and build a 3-d model of what they think an American high school of the future should be.

"Ray Beeler, an architect from Gallin Beeler Design Studio, heard many concerns in his meetings with the staff, including:

The children’s department needs an activity room for programs.
The community room has to be reserved months in advance because it is currently the only large space available for children, teenagers, adults and community organizations to meet.
There is no young adult room.
DVDs and periodicals are scattered around the library wherever they fit."

2014 CCSC Sidewalk Chalk

2014 CCSC Sidealk Chalk Winners - cropped

On a rainy Saturday in August, ten intrepid teams waited to produce images relating to the 1950s for Cross County Shopping Center's Sidewalk Chalk (CCSC) Competition.

GBds chose to honor CCSC by looking back to the original design of the center. The team designed a 3D image of the hospital, Gimbel's and pedestrian area that is the core of the Center.

We would like to thank the CCSC, their management and operations personnel, for providing an opportunity to showcase our work. Thanks also to our GBds Team who took on the challenge to represent Good Design within the confines of the 1950s Theme. Every Team member provided design input and we enjoyed working together on a project.
